The Enviromental Wealth

The Colline Romane offers fascinating travel opportunities in a landscapes characterised by a natural environment of is highly value, with nature reserves and suggestive parks which reflect the unpredictable nature of this territory. From the lakes set between the forests, the vineyards and olive groves, this area extends across more than 1000kmq.

The environmental heritage of the district comprises of five natural protected areas: The Natural Regional Park of the Appia Antica that from Rome extends to Ciampino, where history and nature settle within unique landscape, with the ruins of the important Roman aqueduct; the Natural Regional Park of the Castelli Romani - including the area of the great Laziale volcano, with the typical formation of a concentric belt comprising of hills and mountains, and with the marvellous lakes of Nemi and Castel Gandolfo; the Regional Nature Reserve of the Catillo Mounts - in the area of Tiburtini mounts; the Natural Monument La Selva - at the extreme south-east of the Prenestini mounts; the Natural Monument of the Cannucete Valley - situated among the Prenestini mounts characterised by the presence of antique and beautiful century old trees. Also beautiful, is the Ustica valley wherein there lies an uncontaminated and flourishing nature rich with springs, representing the inspiration for the most beautiful verses of the great Latin poet Orazio who found, in Licenza, his own corner of paradise.

In the natural park of the Lucretili mounts, near the Colline Romane District, one can appreciate nature in transition, between the Tyrrhenian environment and the internal area markedly Apennine in character, set within a most wild territory.
