A mong the many attractions within the Colline Romane District, the historic town centres represent the most important element of excellence.

In particular, this regards the city of Artena which boasts the largest pedestrian town centre in Europe, and which continues today to be travelled upon on mule - back.

The unique beauty of the town centres are linked to their amazing panoramic position, each of which reveal a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscapes. Furthermore, numerous are the terraces that look over Rome, from Frascati to Monte Porzio Catone, and from Rocca di Papa to Rocca Priora.

It is for this reason that the great Italian film producers have always chosen these villages as the setting for their cinematographic masterpieces, including “Il Gattopardo” in Ariccia, by the great maestro Luchino Visconti, and “Pane, amore e fantasia”, in Castel San Pietro Romano, by the beloved Vittorio De Sica.
